History

The start of an idea.

It all began with an idea in 2013. Laura was living in Las Vegas and serving on the board for The Salvation Army. There were many great organization serving at risk or underserved kids, but there wasn’t any event at the time that brought all of those kids and families together. The idea was simple - bring together several organizations that served the Las Vegas Community and create a fun day for children to enjoy - completely free.

A Day at the Museum is born.

The first event was held on January 5, 2014. Nearly 200 at risk children served by The Salvation Army, The Shade Tree Shelter, Marion Earl Elementary School or St. Jude’s Ranch were invited to enjoy exclusive access to the Discovery Children’s Museum. Along with their free and exclusive access to the museum for the day, the children received school supplies, Canes gift cards, and a few other special take home items. The event was done in partnership with local non-profits and corporate sponsors in the community.

The future.

Now Pittsburgh based, the goal is to bring this event to the Pittsburgh community and continue to grow the idea to more organizations, more communities and more exciting experiences for children in the community.
